What do you do if your boss wants to see your public speaking skills?

I would invite him to be present at customer meeting. Would consult and inform him the agenda of the meeting and content of the presentation. Have a dry run with him and get his feedback. Most important is the actual presentation to customer whereby would request for his feedback and suggestion on areas of improvement and the blind spots I had not seen.

Don't be scared of silence. It always seems a lot longer at your end than at the audience's end. It's important to learn to be expressive with facial expressions and gestures to emphasize important points and be more convincing and also to control unwanted movement, for example swaying from one foot to the other or excessive hand gestures, which are distracting and show low confidence. Practice this until you become an expert to deliver content. Work on your non- verbal communication and gestures. Take feedback regularly.

If you're nervous there are a few things you can do. Reframe your anxiety as excitement (it does work as the physical manifestations of both emotions are fairly similar), deep breathing and visualising success. I actually do not agree that confidence comes from preparation though the opposite is true: lack of preparation will most definitely lead to lack of confidence (or should anyway).
