Events are a meritocracy. Taking the high road can go a long way. Eventually people get found out when they can't replicate your results on another event or their actions will catch up to them when enough bridges are burned by their behavior. Karma knocks hard.

This happens far too often in our industry. Ensure you name is across everything and you have proof that you did the work. If someone steals your ideas and presents them as their own, it is a fine line to balance. Your work should look and sound like you did it and people should recognize that.

Regardless of the frustration you feel, it's imperative to maintain professionalism. Venting to colleagues or confronting your boss in anger can backfire and harm your reputation. Instead, request a private meeting with your boss to discuss your concerns. Approach the conversation with a focus on seeking clarity and understanding rather than accusing. The reality is this -- if you are the lead planner the chances are pretty good that everyone is aware of your work and contributions to the project and that your superior is taking claim for success that they had nothing to do with. Your fingerprints are all over the pieces of the event puzzle, most of the directives and e-mails originated with you, and the attendees, your co-workers, the vendors and suppliers and everyone else knows where the credit for the event lies. Just shoulder on, see the project through, and let the pieces fall where they will when all is said. I have been in this situation and during the post-show meeting when very specific questions are asked, I was the person who provided the detailed answers.
