To be honest, as a line pilot, having little management contact may be considered more of a feature than a bug. In most cases getting called into the office is usually a presage to a negative experience. I can easily go months and even years without any contact with my boss, unless I poke my head into the office to say hello to one of the secretaries. On those rare occasions when I need to have an issue addressed, an internal email to the chief pilot is always answered in a timely fashion.

In my experience we don’t have bosses in the airline industry. We work alongside leadership and leadership travels OFTEN. I find technology is the best way to connect. Phone, text, email there are so many different ways to communicate.
