If the team is struggling with productivity then go upstream. Check if goals are unclear or unrealistic. Verify that processes are free of bureaucracy and waste. Check that your team has the appropriate means and resources to meet the challenges. Ask yourself if your team is trained and motivated. The problem may be you, not your team. Review whether the incentives (if any) are well designed and point towards the goals that need to be met. And, for the sake of it, go back to the basics. Reread Taylor and Fayol, Drucker and Deming. And get off your pedestal, go have a coffee or a beer with your team. Perhaps what is needed is to consolidate a true work team, which one day may become a high-performance team.
