In my experiences, documenting the process is essential to 3D printing, as so many variables are at play- tweaking temperature, extrusion speeds, retraction settings etc. require trial-and-error to get tuned to a desired result. The only way to really get repeatable results is to document the process. This may be saving various versions of G-code, printer profiles, or notes on a wiki to refer to. As for procedure documenting of physical setups, I use post-it notes, digital notepads, and even videos to record various iterations and results. If you are tweaking settings, you can create various “benchy” benchmarks, or material swatches to compete iterations. All this makes for great video content- especially if your goal is to teach!
