I think as opposed to looking at it as a point A to point B path, mid-career transition should be seen as a signal for you to go deeper within - to truly get in tune with yourself, your aspirations and how you've evolved. A part of you is calling for radical change. Often times the external shift we want to make is only part of it - this is truly an invitation to go within and have a truthful conversation with yourself about your choices, why you made them, and begin an exploration of yourself and your curiosities. The journey to entrepreneurship is made more clear once we understand our true motivations and ourselves more fully. I'm in mid-career transition myself and found my way into entrepreneurship as a byproduct of self-work.

The next step after assessing your skills is to conduct a market research so as to identify and analyse opportunities, threads and gaps in the industry you're interested in. Clearly evaluate and analyse the demand for your product or service, assess the level of competition, and identify your target market. Clearly define how you will address and resolve the issue found on evaluating the demand and lastly try as much as possible to give value to the service

While financial planning is crucial, it's equally essential to acknowledge that some risks may be unforeseeable. Flexibility and adaptability are key attributes; be prepared to pivot strategies as circumstances evolve. Remember, resilience and creativity often outweigh the strict adherence to a meticulously crafted business plan. Balancing caution with boldness is vital in navigating the unpredictable journey of entrepreneurship.

This one is tricky and in my view, most entrepreneurs get it wrong. 1. Don't build a network that feels good, build a network of potential customers. 2. Don't make friends but become an authority in your field. 3. In-person networking is valuable but good networking online is 10x more valuable. Networking as an entrepreneur is different. Done right it is a game changer. Networking done wrong just wastes time and energy.

Get some customers early. Talk about your project and ask them to commit some money to it, even if it's a token amount. This helps prove the idea is worth pursuing and will go a long way into increasing your motivation for the long run.

The #1 question I'd ask myself before doing this myself in 2020 is: are you comfortable with uncertainty? Entrepreneurship means you're not getting a bi-weekly paycheck, you're not getting paid just to show up, and Everything is your responsibility. Are you ok with making $0 for 6 months? Are you willing to face rejection every day? Can you handle unpredictability calmly & creatively? These all must be yes. Bonus: Ignore the online business gurus telling you they have a bulletproof plan that works for everyone. Trust people that are honestly telling you it won't be easy.

Assessing Your Skillset and Building Network is crucial first steps in your transition stages. Depending on your previous job roles and relationships with your internal and external customers at your previous job roles, it might be difficult to launch a successful and sustainable business. Despite what others might think , Entrepreneurship is a peoples game. Getting your first customer , building and maintaining a steady customer base is one of the most difficult task as start up, so having a solid support structure ( family and friends) , deep relationships, and loyal and true friendship, people that wants to see you succeed could go a far way in the foundation stage of your transition from mid career to entrepreneurship.

You cannot transition to a successful entrepreneur—you can only transition to an entrepreneur. That's the first big question, and challenge, to tackle: Are you ok with failing, because that's what is likely to happen first. You may become a successful entrepreneur someday, but unless you manage to stay in the game throughout setbacks and failure, chances are low. But: Starting with a proper assessment is crucial still. - Compare different ideas or versions of it (based on some objective metrics) - Create a personal entrepreneurial profile (and the life you want) - Ensure a strong natural fit between the two, otherwise keep searching Unfortunately, most ideas are bad. Not in themselves, but because they're not for you. Choose wisely.

Build on your self awareness. Reflect on: - The intent behind transitioning into entrepreneurship - What does success look like to you? - What about dealing with failure? - What pain are you willing to take on? - How are you with change and ambiguity? Have goals for 'success' and also acknowledge that 'failures' are part and parcel of the entrepreneurial journey. More importantly, acknowledging the gift from each lesson.
