If I'm determined to launch a career in public speaking, but lack the necessary skills, I'll take proactive steps to improve. I'll study successful speakers, dissect their techniques, and enroll in targeted workshops and courses. I'll seize every opportunity to speak publicly, even if it's small-scale or within local clubs, to refine my skills. Additionally, I'll focus on identifying my niche, delving into topics that align with my passions and expertise. Through dedicated practice, continual learning, and strategic exploration, I'll pave my way to success in the realm of public speaking.

Figure out why you want to become a public speaker, then figure out how. What skills are necessary, what communities can I find where I live that have public speakers. Are there any classes I can take? Prospective speakers shouldn't focus on the "pretty stages and big audiences". The focus should be on learning the craft and determining the style of speaker you are. New speakers should ask themselves "who" they want to talk too. You can learn in so many different ways now, figure out your why and who, then learn from there.

Good public speakers are not just good at giving speeches, they are performers and presenters. I would recommend looking for an improvisation or acting class to help build your performance skills. In addition, join your local Toastmasters and make an effort to present whenever possible. Join your local Chamber of Commerce and offer to lead or participate on the membership committee. This role, in particular, tends to provide opportunities to speak in front of a group and will help build your skills and confidence as a speaker.

It is okay to feel anxious. Sometimes you just have to do it scared. As time goes on you will get better. I was always nervous doing presentations I took a few acting classes that really helped.

You need to capture attention within the first 3 seconds and be clear on what you do and your positioning, otherwise they move on. You also need to make sure that you SHOW you are a speaker. I see people say "I am a sought after speaker" and yet their online presence doesn't reflect that. A reputable meeting planner will know what level of speaker you are based on what they see online. So be truthful. Show pictures of your speaking and interacting with an audience.
