If the workshops directly equip you with the skills needed for the position, create a dedicated section titled "Professional Development" or "Training." Here, list each workshop with details like title, organizer (highlighting its reputation if relevant), and dates. Briefly mention 2-3 key takeaways, focusing on gained skills and any certifications earned. This demonstrates continuous learning and initiative. For workshops that enhance existing skills more generally, integrate them into your "Skills" section. Simply list the skill and add the workshop title in parenthesis next to it. This subtly conveys your commitment to honing relevant abilities.

Use quotes from happy attendees! Not only right after the seminar/workshop but also quotes from those who've used their new knowledge and how it helped them longer-term: "Maria's workshop taught me 3 new tools that I used in my department, to great success: we now retain 96% of new clients after 1 month vs. 74%!" is way more impressive than "I'd give it a 9 out of 10." So stay in touch with all attendees over time for more of these quotes that you can add to your resume or profile. It'll be worth it!

It is better not to overwhelm your CV with lots of information, because employers pay attention to the practical side of your experience and L&D. You should show that something you learn influenced you to make better work decisions and achieve your goals. For instance, list a webinar on gathering HR analytics that helped you to retain top talent during some crisis in the company. Be accurate and laconic.

Briefly describe the key topics covered or skills acquired during each workshop/seminar. Focus on how these experiences have contributed to your professional growth or enhanced your qualifications for the positions you're targeting.

Tailor the section on your resume to the job you're applying for, emphasising workshops that demonstrate skills or knowledge pertinent to the position. Utilise action verbs and keep the descriptions concise, selecting only the most impactful workshops and seminars to feature. This section should underscore your commitment to professional development and continuous learning while aligning with the requirements of the role you're pursuing.

I like laying out seminars like this: Seminar Title in Bold, Name of Event/Organizer/Speaker, Location, Date of Event If you have room, a single bullet point describing some of the takeaways from attending.

Presenting the Workshop or Speaking Engagement in its unique section and using MLA or Chicago Style for each of the events not only makes the section stand out but offers a tight and compact way to organize the section and keep the depth of one’s experience intact and allow your overall document to remain at a low page count.

The most fundamental rule in resume writing is to ensure the way you format your workshops and seminars is similar to the rest of your resume. I advise many of my clients when applying to multiple jobs where they highlight professional development experiences through workshops and seminars to save multiple descriptions separately and include specific ones on the resume to tailor towards specific job descriptions. For example, if the job description notes "Ideal candidate should demonstrate strong leadership skills...motivate teams to achieve project goals" When showcasing workshops and seminars, how do they help you become this ideal candidate? Identify on the resume how the Leadership Strategies workshop you attended helped you develop new strategic planning methodologies that helped streamline team cohesiveness and project execution to achieve organization goals.

You should use the same font for the extra sections. In addition, I typically make the first part of the line bold for the course name or the course provider (depending on which I feel is more important to showcase). Then I'll include the date and location if it's relevant.

There are some points to consider to differentiate seminars and workshops: either being you as an attendee or as a guest speaker. Being a seasonal candidate, present your studies in a seminar or workshop, especially considering yourself in academia. So, it's important to clarify whether you attended or presented.

If possible, quantify the impact of your workshop/seminar experience. For example, mention if you implemented any strategies or techniques learned in a workshop that led to measurable results in your work. Be selective about which workshops and seminars you include on your resume. Focus on those that are most relevant to your career goals and the positions you're targeting. Aim to keep the section concise and easy to read.

Were you invited to participate in a workshop and/or seminar? Did you represent the company as an active participant and key contributor? If 'Yes' showcase your participation on your with the company to which it applies, and present as an accomplishment. If you are participating in select workshops/seminars to promote your career, then create a separate section dedicated to highlighting workshops, seminars, certifications: Professional Development. If you are the 'presenter' or the 'seminar' organizer or host, then you are in CV territory as opposed to the standard resume format.
