Some time ago in an interview I was asked about my Kaggle profile (a kind of practical portfolio). I replied honestly: "I really don't have time to get involved with Kaggle". It was true (and still is). I spend all my time working, teaching and learning. Almost no free time to work on Kaggle. In my opinion, having a portfolio is important for junior or ssr candidates. For senior and leadership profiles, I'd rather focus on other traits, aptitudes, and technical knowledge. However, for BI developers I do think it's important to have some examples of the work you've done in the past.
