What do you do if you want to secure a future in GIS?

Two things that I would add: (1) Be a systems thinker. It isn't just about the data or process in front of you, but how that fits & feeds the larger organization. Individual solutions need to grow the enterprise. Too often people fixate on the project and don't realize that they've built an island rather than an interstate. (2) It doesn't matter where you gather new knowledge, but embrace constantly growing & evolving. The technology will continue to radically change. Embrace the ocean that you are in. Feel the currents and surf the waves.

Acquire programming skills in languages like Python or JavaScript, crucial for customizing GIS applications and automating tasks. Additionally, recognize the significance of honing skills in database management and spatial statistics. These technical proficiencies are indispensable for analyzing intricate datasets and crafting insightful visualizations.
