An important part of avoiding risks in a successful business, including conducting research on consumers, is gaining consumer trust. Trust is earned by protecting consumer welfare, including their data privacy, security, and their right to choose whether to engage with your business. Design your research based on 3 principles: Respect for Persons, Beneficence, Justice. (1) Provide the opportunity to consent/withdraw consent based on adequate information about the nature of the research & their participation. (2) Minimize the data you collect from consumers to only those that are absolutely necessary. (3) Review whether your research participants are representative of the consumer base.
