The first step is understanding what you need from an app and it should include how you want your attendees to navigate through it. We rarely need all the features of an app and I would say keep it simple. The more information you have on an app the more confusing it may be to an attendee. The app should be a secondary resource to an event and serve as an assistant for reminding people where things are.

Once aspect when deciding on mobile app's is to consider who are your primary attendees and what will the utilize the app for and what is their comfort level with technology. Generally, speaking most attendees will utilize if for things like schedules, maps and personal agendas. However, if your primary target attendee's are Baby Boomers of Gen X they may not be as keen to utilize networking functionalities, instead preferring more face to face interaction. Vice Versa with Millennials and Gen Z. This is important to consider because typically, vendors will try to sell you on features of their service that may not be at all pertinent to your target demographic. This can cause both pains in your budget as well as attendee satisfaction.
