What's more, often unpaid internships are rationalized as okay because students receive credit but this is worse because they are then paying to have the internship. Unpaid internships are also ineffective: NACE research reveals that students with unpaid internships do not see an average net increase in job offers compared to students who don't do them. Better to spend your energy and insights getting funding for these students or supporting paid internships.
