KBE allowed a person-in-the-loop in order to build the necessary models which included the entities, their actionable attributes, and constraints driving a problem search. As well, many times, what was heavily complicated and bordering on insoluble could be nudged to a solution that was near enough. In the form, fit, function sense, the solution had been determined. Additional work was needed to meet the requirements of the computing mode. Despite progress, we still have "silos" some of which deal with representation. Others are due to the state of the art.

That is still a problem due to the gap twixt the modeling efforts of gaming versus the hard-core representation of some metric milieu. So, the approach ought to be learning NN as an associate in a larger suite.

Until that was worked out with "garbage in; garbage out" as the adage. Now, we need "crap in; crap out" in the sense that crap embedded throughout the spaces (parameters and all) involved cannot be trained out after the fact. Let's work on proving that so that the next generation doesn't make the same error.

I'm an economist and see all of the issues that came to play havoc with these current modes and worked engineering support (advanced computing) all of my career. Build AI (it's multi-modal - not the data, the model and actions) for yourself and use it. The computer can act as a third arm or 1/2 brain or whatever. Science requires experiments. Do that with yourself. Please. Not like this GenAI fiasco. Engineering requires handson as well as some knowledge of the "theoretic" issues. Homegrown AI would be entirely available for scrutiny. Now, scaling up? Look, good engineers don't care crap for money (my experience). Give them a problem, and they'll jump to it.
