I disagree. Setting your rate and packages suggests a fixed approach. Spoiler alert: a promotion for a VP of Engineering is worth a lot more than a promo for a junior engineer. If you underprice the VP package they won't believe you're experienced. If you overprice the junior engineer package they won't be able to afford it. Instead, discuss the client's value of achieving those goals with them first. Then identify a target ROI you want your clients to achieve. A $10k raise is $50k over five years. Maybe I want my clients to have a 10x ROI, so $5k might be reasonable. Then, take into consideration what % of their annual salary that comprises.

An online presence is helpful. What's even better is finding where people complain about their lack of progress in the problems you can help them with. That might be a place where they're anonymous (Reddit, Blind, etc.) because they feel more comfortable being open. Post about your client wins. Have them post if they're open to it. Show others you can deliver!

Promoting your services can get expensive quickly. Don't overdo this early on. Focus on delivering great results. The best PR is raving fans that tell their friends about you.
