The product management community by default, I am not sure how we all agreed about this, likes to help each other and post any new updates for learning. Good content, specially PM content, gets noticed because we are a community that is always hungry for knowledge. Every new information is important for us in handling a stakeholder, in making a product plan, in knowing how to deal with conflicts, or prioritizing backlog in the right way. So, keep in posting your knowledge and believe me, you will get more requests to connect and to be followed more than ever.

First off, it's important to note that Product Management is a profession, not an industry. To expand your professional network within the Product Management sphere of a specific industry of interest, I recommend following thought leaders in that industry, reading their posts, and learning from them. When you have questions that are not trivial, or thoughts that could spark a discussion, don't hesitate to share them and engage in conversation. By actively participating in this way, you learn and develop yourself and also contribute to the discussion. This leads naturally to your network expanding as well.

This is one of those areas where online networking and relationship building does not do it justice. If you are in a city with any product management talent presence, look up meetups, conferences, groups to join/attend. Most PMs are curious folks. They are problem solvers at heart. They enjoy meeting other PMs and talking about all kinds of different domains. This is a great way to meet people, learn from others and build a network of PMs.

While online events and communities offer fantastic opportunities to expand connections and network beyond geographical limitations, they can't fully replicate the depth of real-life bonds. Trust, camaraderie, and true connection often come from face-to-face interaction. Don't get me wrong, building a strong online network is valuable. My 13,463 LinkedIn connections are a testament to that! But the question remains: how many of these connections are truly close? How many would I, or they, be willing to jump in and help without hesitation? The reality is, strong, dependable relationships are often forged through shared experiences and in-person interactions, so go to real life events like meetup, conferences, participate in Hackathons or 1:1

I think combination of events, online communities, active on social media, content creation, volunteering for projects and causes can open many doors for those who wants to expand their network.

I have found it very effective is to attend trade shows with the idea of meeting with people from companies that have products that fit into one’s business segments. Another approach is to represent your company on standard bodies which work in one’s business segments. Helping to develop standards is very effective and gives one early insight as to what is coming which will expand opportunities. Yet another approach is to meet with key customers and find out what their growth strategies are so one can much earlier on look at how your products can add value to their growth plans. Being successful at this builds stoner relationships with customers and puts one ahead of the competition.
