1 Identify your target audience

Before you start networking, you need to have a clear idea of who you want to connect with and why. Think about your ideal coaching clients, the industries and sectors they work in, the challenges and goals they have, and the value you can offer them. Then, research where and how they network, what events, platforms, and groups they participate in, and what topics and trends they are interested in. This will help you narrow down your networking options and focus on the most relevant and promising ones.

If you don't have a clear and specific definition for your target audience, you could waste a lot of time on networking with people who aren't the right fit for your goals. In the early days it can be hard to get the level of specificity needed - simply due to a lack of experience. I recommend creating a structured reflective process to help uncover: - what problems you're most interested in solving - what types of functions, skills and personalities are the best fit for you, and - which client scenarios make you feel like you're at your very best (in flow) The answers to these questions can all help you narrow your target market.

I think it's a good idea to get specific. We often tend to help everyone, but paradoxically it will make it even more challenging for you to build your business. Once you know exactly with whom you want to work with, you can specify your communication, and you'll also know with whom to network.

This is the most important part of networking is the follow up, yet less than half actually do this. Networking is about building a relationship and nourishing it. To contact someone, follow it up with a personalized email. Here are some tips: 1. The subject line- Name of event and your name 2. Thank them for connecting with you 3. Refer to a specific detail of your conversation 4. Offer value or request a meeting 5. Close with your contact information. Remember to keep it brief and professional.

5 Evaluate and improve your networking strategy

Finally, you should evaluate and improve your networking strategy regularly, by tracking and measuring your results and feedback. You should ask yourself questions such as: How many people did you connect with? How many of them became your clients or partners? How much revenue did you generate from your networking efforts? How satisfied are you with your networking experience? How can you improve your networking skills and tactics? You should also seek feedback from your contacts, peers, and mentors, and learn from their insights and suggestions.
