En la mayoría de las Plantas de Procesos gran cantidad de la energía que se utiliza en los sistemas de bombeo es desperdiciada. Los arreglos anticuados donde se incluyen bombas con sobre dise?os que alcanzan hasta un 20% tienen como consecuencia equipos trabajando muy lejos del punto de maxima eficiencia (BEP) y muchas pérdidas de energía, adicionalmente el exceso de presión tiene que ser reducido por valvulas de control que asumen la tarea de disipar esa energía "inutil". Por lo antes descrito como primera opcion en un dise?o moderno se debe considerar el uso de variadores de velocidad que permitan "desplazar" el BEP segun el requerimiento y las fluctuaciones del proceso.

El Nuevo Reto consiste en incorporar las herramientas de IA y el uso de Data Science al mantenimiento PREDICTIVO, es decir, actualmente se emplean estrategias de predicción de fallas basados en estadísticas como el Tiempo medio entre fallas (MTBF) de equipos y modelos probabilisticos, esto implica una gran cantidad de horas hombre destinados a interpretar cuando es el momento optimo para hacer esos reemplazos de piezas con un minimo de afectación a la producción. Sin embargo, ahora es posible entrenar a la IA en la detección de patrones basados en esas grandes bases de datos de MTBF acumuladas y obtener predicciones a menor costo y menor tiempo.
