For me Salary is always secondary, why? because I strongly believe you should focus on environment, scope of growth, and what skills you have will be polished. If all are as expected than Salary rise doesn't matter much.

It depends on the climate - is it employers or job-seekers who have the advantage. Personally, with the competitive market, it's best to negotiate one on one where you'll have some wiggle room with human to human discussion. If your resume is competing with 10 like-skilled people, it may come down to a pre-judgment from an algorithm. On the other hand, if you have 5 decent jobs lined up, you may want throw out a competitive number.

Some of the best negotiations feel more like a game of poker, but stay professional and have respect. Its obviously in your interest to get the most and on the other side, they are working within a hiring budget for the quarter. i.e. "That is very generous and I appreciate your offer of $XX but for me and my experience, I have researched $XX a more sustainable amount for this city"
