I guess this where communication in real sense comes in to the picture. The usability testing can be communicated in simple words for most people to understand. Now it might be difficult to identify a person who can be that effective communicator. As long as there is an fairly working system we can find both effective communicator and the one who can understand it.

Use examples to explain how just because a certain UI seems obvious to you, doesn't mean it will be for someone with a different mental model. (e.g a recognisable phone symbol for generations millennial and above is very different for gen z and below) There are multiple reasons aside from age that can create different mental models including experience, culture, habits etc
