What do you do if you need to solve casting challenges in Film Production?

First of all willing person with dedication, interest, resembling the characteristics of that particular role, like voice very important , age, height, accuracy of accent in a typical role etc etc.

1. If you are not restricted by contract, or if it is allowed by the agreement you have with the other affected cast and crew members, consider tweaking the script to accommodate or resolve the casting challenge, but do it in a way not to hurt the storyline. This is easier if you are the writer and director. I did this in a film where I was both the writer and director. 2. If you started shooting already, use body doubles or stand-in actors if the scenes involved are not major and if you could do without showing much of the face of the actor. 3. If you have not started shooting yet, consider switching roles of the actors (if allowed) or revisit your audition list and you might find a good replacement actor.

When tackling casting challenges in film production... The very first thing one should do is to reach out to your existing relationships and network in the film and TV industry. Also, as an actor/producer, I know that many times, the production team and casting directors sometimes don't know what they may be looking for, until they see it at the audition. Also, always keep asking yourself, "how this actor and or this one line, monologue, or sequence can help convey my narrative better?" By continuing to ask this question during the casting process, you will create better stories and help get your project off the ground much faster and with a clearer vision.

There are many undiscovered actors out there. I would attend some local theatre productions or even reach out to acting teachings to see if they have anyone currently taking class that is exhibiting excellent acting chops.

First and foremost, develop a good relationship with casting directors. When considering cast, this should be your first “audition.” When making this decision, try to have as clear an idea of whom you are looking for as cast members, and throughly discuss this with your prospective casting directors. Ask them about their industry relationships, from agencies to talent managers. Once you have made this decision, be sure you provide full disclosure on all aspects of your desired characters, and be willing to work with your casting director to fine tune a character to “fit” a given talent. Then TRUST your casting director to bring you the best possible options available. This will go a long way toward preventing challenges in the first place.

I find that the best way to solve casting challenges, is to tap into one's network. If ones immediate pool of acquaintance actors do not meet ones need, or are not available to work on a particular projector or at a particular time. A character one is struggling to find an actor for, maybe sitting idle waiting for opportunities in another contacts list. As always, our network's collective tentacles, are wider than our individual one.

I've used search methods. Via social media and local agencies. Theater ?? Communities of all groups. Like art ?? foundations play writes. Leaders in performing arts schools. Community development students in businesses. Practicing the arts in connection with City Events.

In my experience as an actor who has studied craft you need a particular language to get to the heart of the matter. You need to hear what the actor thinks of the character and see if it aligns with your understanding.

Negotiating in specific detail has helped me solve casting problems. I was able to secure a high profile talent when thanks to some tweets, I discovered the talent was fascinated with/passionate about something that the talent had in common with the character in the series. So, I approached the negotiation from this angle and it worked. And the talent fit the character like a glove.

While shooting my epic African film, SLAVE WARRIOR in southeastern Nigeria, the actors cast for the role of the Caucasian Slave Masters could not make it to set on location because at the time, foreigners who worked for foreign oil companies in that part of the country were being kidnapped and some even lost their lives. For safety, we adjusted the shooting schedule and delayed their scenes for days but we still could not get them on set. I was out of time and had to return to my base in New York. So, I moved the affected scenes to New York where I cast other Caucasian actors and shot the relevant scenes with good creative manipulation of the storyboard and transitions. It all came out fine as viewers never noticed the adjustments

I agree, but having been a waitress/bartender for so many years, there are more promising-yet-undiscovered actors out there than available roles to be filled; and yet, the talent pool seems so small from the side of production. If an actor can’t make it work, there are countless others who eagerly await a call back.

Ensure representation and always allow the voice behind the face to be authentic. Tokenism is worse than face blindless. Always see and hear you cast to reach the real target audience.
