What do you do if you need to resolve conflicts while negotiating music industry contracts?

In my experience, the best way to handle conflict in a negotiation is to take a measured approach. First, identify what is causing the conflict. Typically miscommunication or misunderstanding of the deal terms or the expectations of the parties is a root cause. Next, I look for common ground. Is there some aspect of the deal the parties can agree on? Once this is found, I use it as a bridge to continue conversations on the conflict. Thereafter, I brainstorm different scenarios for a resolution. Is there some middle ground where each party can feel that they have achieved some of their goals for the deal? Finally I work to close the deal. If you can get the conflict down to one final issue, this can be leveraged to to close the deal.
