What do you do if you need to resolve a conflict professionally and effectively?

When there's conflict, I suggest having a private conversation and approaching it from a curious and learning perspective. When there is conflict it is often due to a misunderstanding on one or both parts. Go into the conversation with an open mind and set a goal. We can sometimes get caught up in what we think is right or winning the conversation but that often backfires. For the first connection, I suggest to make a goal to align on what the problem is. The solution can be for a follow up. If you go in with defending your reasons for your position and jumping to the solution, it can escalate the conflict. When you make the goal to understand and align, you ensure you're solving the right problem and allowing both parties to be heard.

Understanding issues is a cornerstone of conflict resolution. As an expert, I emphasize the importance of emotional intelligence in this process. Active listening and empathy not only clarify misunderstandings but also build trust, making it easier to navigate the conflict. It's crucial to approach the situation with a non-judgmental mindset and avoid making assumptions, as this can exacerbate the conflict. Remember, the goal is to understand the root cause, not to win an argument.

I think it's often a communication issue ,or that someone is not understanding the point of view of the other. It's important to make the other side feel safe and always keep in mind the answer to "do you want to be right or do you want to solve the issue?" .. often times when we change our perspective and position, we will see the situation differently and find healthy ways to solve it

In resolving conflicts professionally, I thoroughly analyse the situation, considering all perspectives and underlying concerns. Open communication is crucial, creating an environment where all parties feel comfortable expressing their thoughts. Seeking common ground, I identify shared goals for compromise. Collaboratively, we develop solutions addressing everyone's needs. After reaching an agreement, I ensure its implementation and reflect on the process for future improvement.

To really understand the issue we must consider the current state, desire outcome, and what is getting in the way. Then understanding our own thoughts, feelings, emotions, fears, beliefs, and identity that are impacted by or a part of the conflict. Self reflection must always come before any communication.

I’ve found 98% of the time conflict is related to unclear expectations, an absence of accountability or commitment, and lack of the necessary capability and capacity. Most of the time if you can foster a productive conversation (appropriately expressing and managing emotions) and identify the issue the conflict becomes minimal and the conversation shifts to problem solving.
