What do you do if you need to expand your real estate knowledge?

The easiest way is to look online. You can find trusted brands or universities and look for courses that give you an unparalleled curriculum. These courses, since online, are difficult to say whether it is one fits all. Hence try to look for testimonials and reach out to people in person and take their guidance. A rave review does not mean it necessarily fits you. Make sure there are industry experts teaching you and expanding on newer, trendier topics and tools.

First, I would seek out the latest documents, books, and articles on the real estate market to stay updated. Next, I would enroll in online or offline courses to learn from experts in the field and have the opportunity to exchange knowledge with the community. Additionally, I would look for practical opportunities such as participating in real estate projects to apply knowledge and skills in a practical manner and gain experience. Lastly, I would always maintain an open-minded attitude to learn from those around me and continuously enhance my knowledge in this field.

Going online is one of the best ways to expand your knowledge of any topic. Depending on which part of the real estate sector or process I’m looking to grow my skills in, I would head to different places. If I am looking to learn about investing, finance or law - eCornell, as well as other major universities, has great certificates you can do online. If I am hoping to increase my negotiation skills, Chris Voss does a great MasterClass and so does Dale Carnegie. Lastly, if I’m hoping to grow my systems and database, I’d head to Ninja Selling.

I have found that online courses or professional courses are super effective and can help project you into full potential even if you don't have the background knowledge initially.

One way to network for knowledge is to reach out to your local associations and women’s council who are committed to providing value for their membership. In fact, many associations I belong to offer lunch and learns, expert panels, certification opportunities which will get you knowledge on a range of topics but also put you in a room of like minded folks who often have resources, valuable opinions and know others you can tap into.

Attending networking events will help you build your connection, fast way to get referrals, always attend community events, especially starting with the community you live and then some other social events and making them know what field you are into. Try to be friendly and always introduce yourself stating you are a realtor. You never know who's looking for a property.

Even if there's not a formal mentorship program available in your brokerage/area of choice, design your own relationships. Shadow an experienced agent, ask the mentor to shadow you on a couple of early conversations and deals to give feedback. Learning from others is invaluable!

This year, I have a mission to read a min of one business book/month to help grow my skills and perspective. Best way to stay accountable? Join a book club! This is a great way to 1) get relevant recommendations. 2) force yourself to *actually* read the pages in a set time 3) open yourself to conversation and perspective of others 4) an opportunity to meet great folks. In the past, I have participated in a personal finance book club with a local business owner, a virtual book club through Ninja Selling and a boss babe book club through my employer. You can find the opportunity in many places or start your own!

Surround yourself with people that are smarter than you. Surround yourself with people who closes 10X more of the amount of deals that you want to close. You learn from people. Choose your people.

Real estate is an ever-evolving business. There are always new rules, forms, and regulations to contend with as the market changes. We are expected to stay current with industry developments as they happen. If you are new to the business, ask to shadow one or two more experienced agents in your office. Take this opportunity to take notes, ask questions, and develop your strategies.

Start connecting with the other agents in your brokerage and build relationships. Offer to help with showings, inspections, appraisals, etc. This will allow you to learn and open the door for opportunities.

I would definitely suggest to learn by shadowing experienced real estate professionals to gain practical knowledge and skills.
