What do you do if you need to delegate a UX Research project to a team member?

Instead of just following a script, think about sparking their curiosity. Let them shadow real customer support calls, observe user testing sessions, or even dive into social media rants about your product. This immersive experience will fuel their research and unearth insights you might have missed.

Early in my career (as someone receiving delegated work) I was afraid to ask for resources that I needed for fear of looking inexperienced... I was inexperienced, but looking back on my trajectory I realized it wasn't necessarily my fault. Now that I find myself in a position where delegation is critical, I know that sharing the necessary resources and information is often a difficult but critical part of the process for successful delegation. Without the right foundation and insight, how will the person you delegated work do as well as you could (or hopefully better than you could). Make sure that you share more than you think you need to share and make sure that they know that they can always ask for more if needed.

Show to them that some routines have been established in order to facilitate the communication between the researchers and all the stakeholders. Make them understand that you need someone who is ready to do great presentations without discriminating people around. Show that your company gives importance to understand more people from different background and that requires a great level of interpersonal skills. You researchers should know that there are some expectations from your business that they should understand like quality work is often related to collaboration between each department including the engineers and the designers.

Be ready to tell them that supports will be given to them during their work. Show to them that you are ready to provide some guidelines and some lights that are leading them to achieve the goals of the business. From here, you need to offer some documents from the previous projects so that the UX researchers can conduct secondary research before proposing any methods for a primary resarch. Remind them that you are there to assist them and to encourage them during their journey as a UX researcher. Make them understand that the company is ready to support each contributor that is willing to create something unique for the good reputation of the group. Be willing to explain the importance of accessibility support that the company provides.
