In my experience, you do not need to have worked in sustainability to start learning about this topic. Reading books, joining an interest group, attending conferences, meeting people outside of your area of expertise are all recognized methods to grow one’s field of vision. Every single role can pivot into sustainability and by making small changes you can take steps that make an impact. If you are ready to jump into the sustainability arena you will need to be prepared to collaborate, make connections across disciplines and work well with a variety of stakeholders. A key example of transferable skills would include building a vision and setting clear objectives to achieve a common goal. Why not start today?

The idea that you don't have "sustainability experience" should not deter a single person from applying to a job in this sector. First, the word sustainability is defined so broadly that it boggles the mind in terms of opportunities - and literally every position can be pivoted to apply those same skills in a sustainable way. Lawyers - easy. Marketers - easy. Drivers - easy. Personal shoppers - easy. Parent - easy. Teacher - easy. Every career can be sustainable you just need to pivot. And most of the time how you do it is sitting right there waiting for you.
