One thing I would like to add to but strongly leaves a bitter taste in our mouths is the fact that these are tools that we should use in addition to, and there's a saying that goes like "a tool is as good as its user. In this world full of surprises in the global supply chain, how we always correct the logics in the production scheduling model will guarantee how effective this tool becomes in the future..

This paragraph captures a broad issue of the production scheduling models. It's true that all these factors can contribute to failure of the model however by having the model dynamic, and applying all the lessons learned through the failures and enhancing the model after every failure the model will reach a certain point that will be close to perfection. Excluding of course external socialoeconominc factor that can affect the production line.

It's all true, production scheduling ca be expensive. It takes a dedicated team effort to collect, analyze and interpret all the data through a very expensive software to build and apply the models. However depend on the industry, on the long term play it might actually be cheap.
