However, it's equally important to ensure that these models align with the objective function, whether it's minimizing costs, maximizing efficiency, or reducing waste. Start by understanding the three pillar questions: What defines better/worse? Learn how to answer this question for different problems, in a nuanced way. Are all errors the same? In a pregnancy test, is a false positive the same as false negative? (don't focus only on whether it is regression/classification) What is good? Benchmark. Never say "It is good" without saying "compared to this benchmark". (Choose Random Forest or Logistic Regression as benchmarks) How to measure it? Cross-validate. Learn a bit about overfitting and how train and test data need to be separated.

Typically, the interviewer in the data modeling evaluation wants to understand your rationale behind your decisions rather than your ability to build a model. For every business problem, there are a variety of modeling techniques that can be used. Instead of demonstrating that you can compare metrics across many different models indiscriminately, try selecting three models and describing the tradeoffs between them in detail. This will help the interviewer better understand how you think about modeling choices and give them a sense of how you could contribute on the data science team.
