What are the common usability issues in UX design?

Users are not sure what to do. 1. Issue - Task & information are competing for users' attention. 2. Next step - Evaluate design frm d lens of design principles - Dominance, Focal Points, Hierarchy. What to expect from the product or service 1. Issue - U are communicating in a way u understand and not d way d user understands. 2. Next step - Get out of d building and talk to d user. Design is inconsistent 1. Next step - Connect with product & engineers. Dig deeper into the reason for d inconsistency. 2. Approach - U can replace muddy water in a glass with clean water in 2 ways. Throw d muddy water and add clean water. 2nd continue pouring clean water in muddy water. The former seldom happens. Plan for d latter. Improve incrementally.

Use clear and concise language. Maintain consistency in design elements. Provide visual feedback and cues. Organize content and layout logically. Reduce unnecessary elements or distractions. Conduct user testing for feedback. Ensure accessibility for all users. Create clear calls to action. Handle errors with informative messages. Provide documentation and help resources. Keep the user at the center of design.

Before I get into design, I try to understand Why I am even in the room or conversation with a client. It is typically a broader business problem that then trickles into a smaller design consideration. Once we understand that, then I ask a lot of 'Why' questions. When it is clear of 'What you want to do' and 'Why' you want to do it, I start to lay out a critical path and communicate that as early as possible. Focus on asking good questions and then communicating your thoughts as early as possible.

One of the ways to avoid the lack of clarity is to define the problem from the very beginning. The key would be discovering the real issues that need to be solved and, from there, defining actions, priorities, and guidelines to make the process as clear as possible. Less is always more and even though it sounds a bit like cliché it's absolutely right. Clarity and simplicity are the basis for a good UX design and as designers, we should always aim to achieve that.

Clarity is subjective. What might be straightforward to you, might be unclear to another. One of the first few concepts I learnt in my UX role was 'Affordance' which essentially is how intuitive a feature is regarding its perceived and actual functions. According to Don Norman in his book of The Design of Everyday Things, he says that “when affordances are taken advantage of, the user knows what to do just by looking: no picture, label, or instruction needed.” Because it's subjective, test the wireframes or prototypes with your end users and you'll be surprised by the insights you glean! Eg. If we purely use traffic light (green, yellow and red) system to denote progress, a colourblind individual may not get that at all.

This is only a problem seen on news sites or social networks like gab. A small site map on top with your location always solves that.

It’s helpful to understand your target audience. What are they possibly looking for and what key actions do you want them to take.

Focus on 2 key things: 1. Overall flow between screens - it should accomplish a mission smoothly, as if you are having a conversation with someone 2. On each screen, minimize the clutter and have a clear singular Action button. Almost everything else can be tucked away or made a secondary action because its near some other data.

A common mistake is to not design around very large font size or high contrast night time black and white user interface themes. Text becomes hard to read if its too large (eg for older or visually impaired users) and it may not fit in the frame and get cut off. This would lead to problems in navigation. Some designers overcome this by having icons in place of text based buttons.

Poor navigation status for any digital product is a sign of immature design. Having an an intuitive navigation system throughout the design is a must and should be prioritized. Take inspiration from some nicely designed applications in order to not make rookie mistakes:)

Since India has no forced rule to follow accessibility compliance primarily for Pvt organizations, i assume folks in India usually ignore to make their product accessible. In the other hand accessibility is one of the most important part of the UX Design that enables all kind of your users to interact with your design with equal importance. To improve accessibility, UX designers should use inclusive and empathetic design principles for sure.

Designing for accessibility means everyone has the ability to use what we're making, and that's what we want! It can be easy to think that accessible design has constraints, but in reality it offers a framework that makes designs easier to use and more intuitive. Some design programs have accessibility tools integrated into them that can help. And companies like Fable allow us to do testing with people who have disabilities and might use assistive technology to interact with sites or apps. Fixing accessibility issues in the design stage is much quicker and cheaper than fixing them once they're coded, so checking things early helps us be more productive teams.

When thinking for accessibility think about: 1. Text - make it as clear as possible. The entire application should work even if it was a text file, without images. The hierarchy should be clear without fancy fonts. 2. Contrasts - follow basic readability standards of using colours, and images that are clear even in black and white. 3. Customisation - where allowed for, allow users to set their own preferences such as font size, disabling images, animations, etc. 4. Test Final Product Hard - make sure that the final product works as intended, and take ownership of the UX even after its gone out. Use relevant tools to try out the system in different resolutions, devices, etc until you are happy.

Product interactions vary from user to user. Designers must consider different abilities, such as color blindness or limited motor skills, in order to make sure their products are accessible to as many people as possible.

It is not for accessibility but for user nagging and control. The biggest offender being google services here where you routinely have your control taken and forced into compliance. Their latest UX crimes of course being the "We detected you have an ad blocker" with a forced wait timer for punishment. This is the first time in history that UX has punishment as an invention.

Often times I see beautiful websites that have severe lag. They are fronted with beautifully captured images but unfortunately, the image is gradually 'revealing' itself. To do: Compress your images, and keep them in JPEG as it takes up less space and hence loads faster. Sometimes, there is no issue with speed in the local country, but you may find it significantly lagging in other countries due to the server location. Because SEO rankings will be affected if your website loads slowly, it's worthwhile to do a test check every once in a while to optimise your site!

Mismatched expectations breed disappointment. When UX doesn't meet user assumptions, trust falters. It's like a road leading to the wrong destination. Bridge gaps with clear communication and intuitive design. Anticipate user needs for a seamless, satisfying experience.

Aesthetic appeal is pivotal in UX. Dull colors and cluttered layouts diminish user interest. It's like a book with an uninviting cover. Elevate designs with vibrant, harmonious visuals. Streamline layouts for visual clarity. Thoughtful aesthetics captivate users, leaving a lasting impression and fostering engagement. Remember, a visually pleasing interface is the gateway to a positive user experience.

Adding workflows based on user journeys allows streamlined interfaces with minimal clutter. Not every kind of user will use every feature in your interface. There should be a reliable minimum interaction (lesser number of clicks) process defined that allows users to execute their requirement when needed, reliably and with speed.

feedback and feedforward are the most critical systems that are not considered in most product ,such as digital and physical. they improved interaction between the app and the user, because the user must be able to interact with products in an accurate manner and according to the conditions, understand the information and then take action

In UX design, hiccups are common. Cluttered interfaces, confusing navigation, and slow loading times frustrate users. Overlooking accessibility can exclude some users.
