To avoid scope creep during project following may be considered: 1) Define a well sought out Scope of Work during RFP (Request for proposal) phase. This shall have consent of all stake holders. 2) Clearly identify required deliverables from DCS System integrator or OEM. 3) Prepare detailed IO lists, HMI design layouts during planning phase. 4) Prepare a detailed functional specification and share plant process descriptions with vendor prior to BOM finalization. 5) Thorough review of FLDs prior to PO placement.

Change in project team during execution and implementation phase can be pose a high risk to DCS integrity and interoperability. It can create inconsistencies in the system architecture, control philosophy and programming/hardware integration. This can create delays in DCS integration. Solution to avoid this scenario is to have a comprehensive project documentation system in place with well defined transmittals.
