What are the best ways for virtual team members to learn from each other remotely?

One of the best ways to foster a learning environment amongst remote teammates is to create a persistent virtual meeting space. In the past my remote teams have used a standing Google Meet room to hop on quick calls and work through problems together or just hang out to cut out the physical distance in between them. This not only helps teammates learn from one another by solving problems and bouncing ideas off of each other, but it also creates a better connection between people that might be thousands of miles apart. The more connected and engaged your team is, the more productive they will be.

"Lernkultur" verstehe ich anders: nicht normativ sondern deskriptiv: Jedes Team hat immer schon eine Lernkultur - vielleicht eine in Teilen hilfreiche und in anderen Teilen weniger hilfreiche. Es lohnt sich, diese Lernkultur zu analysieren und zu überlegen, wie sie weiterentwickelt werden kann. Anstatt eine Lernkultur "zu verschreiben", scheint es mir geboten, erst einmal zu verstehen, wie Lernen bislang gelebt wird und gelingt. Bei Lernhacks machen wir so etwas h?ufiger mit Klienten-Teams und sind oft begeistert, wie viel wir finden, das weiterentwickelt werden kann.

Vor der Initiierung von Team Lernen ist es wichtig, als Team Lead ein eigenes und sp?ter gemeinsames Verst?ndnis dessen aufzubauen, was das Team unter "Lernen" versteht und welchem Zweck es dienen soll. "Lernen lernen" zum Selbstzweck ist nicht sinnstiftend und daher wenig abschlussf?hig in der t?glichen Arbeit. Das Entwickeln von Lernzielen selbst ist ein mitunter schwieriger Prozess, der moderiert werden sollte.

Aus meiner Sicht l?sst sich eine virtuelle Lernkultur initial durch ein gemeinsames Lernzielverst?ndnis f?rdern. Es sollte klar sein, welche Lernthemen innerhalb des Teams im bspw kommenden halben Jahr relevant sind. Das kann beispielsweise in einem gemeinsamen Workshop erarbeitet werden.

Snackable learning that is related to real projects is highly valuable. An example I've seen work well is for the team to share their 3 daily lessons learnt with the rest of the team. These snippets can be easily consumed and often give good insights that are consumed and reused.

These are some success steps to take in Virtual teams: Understand your team:?Know your team members as individuals, including their strengths and weaknesses. Set clear expectations:?Set clear, company-wide expectations so that everyone is working towards the same goals. Encourage regular communication:?Establish ground rules for communication, use the right communication tools, and hold frequent check-ins. Have team building exercises:?These meetings can be opportunities for building rapport among coworkers. Make objectives clear:?Team leaders must set the goals and objectives. Also remembering that it's okay to have fun at work :-) Think of some cool bonding activities to build camaraderie and set an environment of positivity.????

Everyone has their own learning style, there is a significant need for accessibility to different types of resources. Compulsory learning should be avoided.

Es stellt sich für erfolgreiches Lernen im Team nicht die Frage nach Lernmethoden oder Medien und Formaten, sondern vorrangig geht es darum, dass Lernende Commitment entwickeln. Das ist Basis und Schlüssel zur Weiterentwicklung. Bevor wir nach Methoden und Formaten fragen, die "nur" das Lernen in den Blick nehmen, vergessen wir etwas viel wirksameres: das Einbinden von Lernroutinen in die t?gliche Arbeit. Wenn ich es allein und wir als Team schaffen, aus den Herausforderungen der t?glichen Arbeit heraus Lernbedarfe zu identifizieren und diese Lücken zu schlie?en, dann braucht es viele Lernmethoden als solche nur bedingt.

Ja, Technologien unterstützen beim selbstorganisierten Lernen. Aber sie sind nur ein Teil des Repertoires, das ich ben?tige, um erfolgreich zu lernen. Bücher lesen bspw. ist nach wie vor eine sehr erfolgreiche Lernstrategie, dafür braucht es keine Technologien. Der Ort virtueller Kollaboration, bspw. MS Teams oder Slack, sollte auch der Ort des Lernens sein. Damit braucht es aus meiner Sicht langfristig keine Learning Management Systeme mehr.

To set the stage for success, I also believe that a kick-off meeting is essential, serving as a lifeline by establishing the ground rules and setting the tools, channels, and techniques to be employed. An in-person kick-off meeting is ideal, but if that's not feasible, an alternative could involve a virtual gathering using interactive platforms like Slack or Menti. This creative approach ensures clarity on the tools and techniques essential for seamless collaboration.

When my organization was undergoing a digital transformation and moving to remote work, I found one of the most effective ways to encourage my team to get to know each other was through regularly scheduled “lunch and learn” sessions. We would host these sessions virtually and have team members at all levels present on topics of interest or industry trends. It created an informal setting that encouraged knowledge sharing in a relaxed environment. This naturally resulted in building rapport which in turn enabled the building of trust. From a leadership perspective, it helped me better understand the priorities and interests of my team, and being present in these informal settings let them get to know me better too.

Actually, one of the great ways that they found to enhance the relation between team members in online meetings is to reduce the expectations and consider other team members comprehension capabilities. sometimes the technology and it’s over usage can be overwhelming and many people prefer simplicity.

Share, Listen, and Recognize achievements and progress, just take the time to acknowledge significant project milestones or deadlines through virtual celebrations, showcasing the collaborative efforts of the team. This recognition serves to highlight and appreciate the collective accomplishments of the team members.

Eine sch?ne M?glichkeit, um das gegenseitige Kennenlernen im Team zu f?rdern ist ein ?Manual to me“ - eine Gebrauchsanweisung, die u.a. die eigenen Lern- und Begeisterungsthemen mit einbezieht. So wird gegenseitiges Verst?ndnis gef?rdert und Anknüpfungspunkte geschaffen.

Once, when we had new people in our team, we decided to do something fun. We took turns presenting each other, like a little show and tell. It helped everyone feel more comfortable and friendly. It built trust and it was a really good way for us to get to know each other better.

Giving feedback and asking for it is not really common for our team, however we are trying to create a feedback culture by setting feedback rounds from time to time, even including stakeholders that might know our goals, but are not involved in our daily business. We shared the answers in focus groups and rate the weight of the answers. Right after the sessions we take measurements about the possible improvements to be made.

Externe Begleitung durch Coaches und Mentoren macht sehr viel Sinn. Einerseits sollte der Prozess des Team Lernens durch Team Leads oder Coaches eingeführt werden. Teams begleitet auch immer das Umfeld der Organisation, sodass auch geschaut werden sollte, dass man seine Lernroutinen und Lernweisen auch mit anderen Teams und Abteilungen challenged. Das muss nicht zwangsl?ufig in einem Wettbewerb passieren, wie es Gamification-Ans?tze verfolgen. Es geht vor allem darum, sich zu vernetzen und auszutauschen. Eine gr??er angelegte Besch?ftigung mit dem Thema "Lernen in Teams" sollte sich dann auf strategischer Ebene von HR/Personalentwicklung abspielen. Hier kann auch über Stakeholder nachgedacht werden und eine breitere Datenbasis entstehen.

Gerade im agilen lernen ist die regelm??ige Retro des eigenen Lernens (und des im Team) integraler Bestandteil der Lernprozesse.
