What are the best ways to use data bars and color scales in Excel to visualize data?

I use data bars and colour scales everyday to analyze qualitative data but adding it into excel into numerical format by ranking industries and stocks in the markets. The colours I use for improvements are green and the worst affected industries are red. This is a simple yet effective way of seeing performance of various sectors and industries over time.
