Equipping with a right set of skills is very important. 1. Solid your fundamentals regarding language. 2. Solid your software testing fundamentals. 3. Learn the architecture/flow of the software testing automation. 4. Expand your knowledge in a domain by opting / mixing different things for creating a great product. e.g. -> deepselenium (that's coming from selenium): Using AI under selenium for optimizing more!!

When I'm interviewing new analysts or SDETs, I always include a question that's simply providing a screenshot of the product or website and asking how they'd test it. No further instructions. Not only do you see what the applicant immediately springs to based on experience you can see how they think and grow their test plans. The ability to consider where or how to test is more meaningful to me than the ability to write an automated test.
