What are the best ways for teachers to support students with learning differences?

It's all about building those meaningful connections, folks! Take the time to really get to know your students on a personal level. Dive into their interests, strengths, challenges, and unique learning styles. When we understand our students inside and out, we can better tailor our support to meet their individual needs.

In my experience, supporting students with different learning styles starts with really getting to know them. It's about more than just knowing their names, it means understanding their strengths and areas where they might struggle. We can achieve this by talking to them, observing how they engage in class, and reviewing their test results. Sometimes, students might not express themselves openly, so it's essential to make an extra effort to understand their needs. By doing this, we can make sure each student gets the help they need to do well.

Everyone learns in a different way. In order to support kids, you have to know who they are, what are their strengths and areas they need support. Multi-sensory techniques, break a concept into step-by-step, offer a variety of activities within the topic to accommodate different learning preferences and abilities and monitor a child's progress. That should help you a lot in developing future activities for a child.

Understanding and supporting students with learning differences involves a comprehensive approach. The initial step is gaining insights through formal and informal assessments, class observations, interviews, and collaboration with parents and professionals. This holistic understanding informs tailored instruction and personalization, acknowledging individual strengths and preferences. In early years children have significantly different learning stages, and pick up different things at different speeds and even at different times of day. Learning time needs to allow for children to master skills at their own pace. Play based adaptive learning has the ability to allow flexibility while also creating a beautiful inclusive environment where each child is doing something different thus eliminating the pressure of every child having to achieve the same thing at the same time in the same duration. This also allows for much peer learning and support in a natural way, hence giving teachers also time to deal with different types of learning as well as support in different ways.

Variety is the spice of life, right? Well, the same goes for teaching! Embrace the power of differentiation by offering a range of instructional strategies, materials, and assessments. Whether it's providing alternative assignments, incorporating multimedia resources, or adjusting the pace of instruction, let's keep things dynamic and flexible to ensure all students can shine.

The way I try to offer multiple learning opportunities is through educational podcasts, web resources, clinical simulations, digital presentations, and diagrams. I try to make the knowledge as engaging as possible.

I sometimes call colleague teachers to also come teach specific topics I notice learners are not able to grasp. Also incorporate peer teaching; children learn through play and their peers who understand topic well can teach them.

Aprender a aprender, desaprender, reaprender y autoaprender todo el tiempo es el reto del nuevo siglo, el rol del docente es clave para mostrarle al estudiante, cuál es su punto de partida, hacia donde tiene que llegar, y acompa?arle para que el mismo estudiante vaya tomando el rumbo de su aprendizaje como una experiencia cristalizante, para esto es vital normalizar el error, evaluar de manera permanente, curar contenido para que pueda investigar y brindarle todas las herramientas personalizadas para que consiga la autorregulación de su propio proceso de aprendizaje.

They are not feeling the necessity to go for deeper understanding and probing into themselves for finding answers or choices that is best for them. Again self evaluation is a great tool to understand where they stand and where they need to go.

In most cases I have learned strategies from them when they share what they used - without the tag good-bad, right-wrong or effective-ineffective.

I do not believe in growth mindset. Lets not create another label called growth mindset. If i do not have a growth mindset am i less than others? To say one set of mindsets are better is very dangerous. I would rather say all mindsets are okay - and i accept all the mindsets of the world exist inside me. Once i realise that I have a large toolset i can choose which one to use when. We are the good and we are the evil; We are the king and we are pauper. Once children recognise that mindset is just an the environment in and around me - which is anyways dynamic - then they become more accepting of themselves, of others and of the situations and circumstances around them.

Last but certainly not least, let's nurture a mindset of growth and resilience in our classroom. Encourage students to embrace challenges, learn from setbacks, and celebrate their progress along the way. By fostering a positive and supportive learning environment, we're helping students develop the confidence and resilience they need to tackle any obstacle that comes their way.

In health education, resilience is key. My students must face death as future emergency health technicians, experience extreme situations... That's why, through clinical simulation and project-based learning, I work on situational awareness to provide them with tools for managing chaos and emotions, in the face of challenges and extreme situations they will need to know how to handle tomorrow as future emergency professionals.

For me what has helped is not to consider myself higher than the children - neither in knowledge, nor intelligence nor wisdom. Once i am at-par, rest is joyous.

We could also consider breaking task into smaller pieces, utilize all the learning abilities; visual, audio and audio visual.
