From what I have seen and experienced in the last couple of years, this Executive Summary (because that is what it is) makes up for even 90% of the effort. As a leader you need to be able to present clearly from the beginning Why you will bring success to the company you are applying for. So early on you need to bring arguments to that respect. Data insights, achievements, skill sets, expertise, all presented in a summarised and compelling way to show the value that you will bring to the organisation. It is a difficult exercise to do, it takes practice but in my view it is an essential step. A strong and compelling executive summary will progress your application; la k of it would most likely stop the process all together.
