Student engagement in my visual art classes had many facets. Student attendance required by the University was very important. Student engagement was graded by full completion of the required assignments according to what was outlined in the syllabus. If the student didn’t complete all assignments they would receive a failing grade unless their excuse was accepted by me, their professor. My observation of students on task in class was a factor that contributed to their success. Lastly student development was reflected in their process and progress.

To me, student engagement is marked by students utilising their strengths, finding enjoyment in learning, overcoming challenges using critical thinking, and expressing their curiosity in class. Collecting regular feedback from students on these elements not only allows educators to make necessary adjustments but also serves as a valuable addition to a teaching portfolio. These insights provide a tangible representation of the effectiveness of teaching methods, demonstrating the educator's commitment to creating an engaging and dynamic learning environment that supports students' growth and enthusiasm for learning.
