1 Choose quality over quantity

One of the most common mistakes that designers make is to cram too many projects into their portfolio. This can make your portfolio look cluttered, confusing, and unfocused. Definitivamente a mi lo que me ha funcionado es seleccionar los proyectos más destacados visualmente, pero también en impacto logrado. Esto tratando siempre de alinearon al cliente o empleador. Es decir que casi para cada uno de ellos hay que crear un nuevo portafolio o al menos cambiar el orden de las cosas de acuerdo a los requerimientos que tengan. Y no olvidarnos de mostrar también otras cosas que estén dentro de nuestras capacidades o servicios.

Research Your Audience and Identify clients you're targeting. Understand their values . Choose projects that align with your audience's interests. If they value specific design styles then prioritize projects that showcases the same. showcase the design skills most valued by your client, If a particular industry appreciates BIM skills, emphasize projects thats done using BIM. Address Pain Points if you know the common challenges or pain points your audience faces, highlight how your design solutions address or overcome these issues. By customizing your portfolio based on your audience's expectations and preferences, you increase the chances of making a meaningful connection and showcasing your suitability for their specific needs.

Since we work in a very physical field, I love to have physical products with me that I've designed. I personally work on outdoor gear, so often I will bring a backpack that I've designed to a conference or job interview to be able to showcase my ability to ship functional product. Designers find it fun to be able to experience something in 3D, and it provides a nice natural conversation that may prove memorable.
