What are the best ways to keep your IT service skills up to date?

Practice your skills regularly and don't shy away from challenges. Pushing yourself with tasks beyond your knowledge comfort not only ensures strengthening in weak areas but also cultivates resilience. What I personally find most useful is dedicating some of your free time to continuous learning. As you learn new things, make an effort to integrate them into your daily tasks, aiming to improve workflows or automate them. This approach, in the long term, not only enhances and expands your current skill set but also generates more time for learning new things.

To gain knowledge and level up the existing skills, one should first of all have a mindset of life long learner, keep doors open and avoid being perfectionist - this is simply a perception.! To discover the skill gaps, map the current skills with the industry (could be same or new, doesn't matter), start increasing the network by connecting people, what are the mission and visions of these organization in next 5 year or so, read articles and white papers. We should have a long list, list down top 5 areas where growth opportunity is at higher level. According to me the best way to keep our IT service skill up to data is to understand the best practices followed in the market for our domain. Then learn those on paper and implement in the real-world scenario. Here also you need to see if those practices are relevant to your organization or not. You can take advice from the mentors who are master in this domain.

Once we identify gap in the skills, we have several avenues and opportunities to enroll online courses. The most simple and effective which catches my eyes are LinkedIn Learning, Udemy, Simplilearn and Coursera. To avoid the interest and lose momentum, I recommend to start with small (1-2 hours) bit-sized content and at the same time positive feeling that you learn and accomplished something. This will boost confidence and able to hone skills for career and personal development.

Ahora en día hay muchos cursos para aprender pero en mi opinión, hay que enfocarnos en algo que nos agrade, nos guste, nos llene de interés, tratar de tener un orden en lo que buscamos para nosotros mismos, por ejemplo si nos gusta SQL y queremos aprender más, hay que dedicarnos a SQL hasta que lo dominemos y a donde llegue nuestro interés, y después el que sigue, ya que tener varios cursos no estaremos al cien por ciento dándolo todo por esa nueva habilidad, y si ya suponemos que sabemos todo, es interesante saber que siempre hay algo que aprender.
