ISPs can enhance redundancy on PE and Access layer to an extent subject to the cost the user is willing to bear. Today there are options in device codes that support L3 redundancy without the need for redundancy protocols like VRRP or HSRP that require at least a /29 IP pool. Multihoming features provide redundancy or access layers without relying on the dreaded (considering the fact that loops are just a bad BPDU away) spanning tree. Node level redundancy can be achieved for L2 MPLS services today, that too in an inter-op environment. The trade-off here is configuration complexity and in some cases, scalability.
