As important as the Method is the Structure. Some points to consider - Tightness. For a very defined problem that requires an incremental solution, adopt a tight agenda. For a less well-defined problem you might benefit from a looser, more emergent approach - Input materials. The best brainstorming comes when there is good quality information and stimulus material (sometimes as a pre-read) to get people in the zone. If you just try to work from a standing start or have random / poorly presented materials, you'll likely end up with 'garbage in, garbage out' - Flocking. With a large group, allow delegates to self-select to a particular creative challenge or group. - And despite digital advances, brainstorming is better in person

Irrespective of the concrete process, I would always start by asking people to list their ideas by themselves. There is ample research that shows how starting off with individual thinking yields more diverse andmore innovative ideas. The opposite ends in group think, whereby the first ideas that were expressed limit the thinking of the rest of the group. There are various methods to use starting off with individual thinking, and integrating and adding up to large groups deciding on the best ideas to take forward. I personally use Me-We-Us, alternting between individual tasks, small group conversations and whole group discussion. A great varation of this is 1-2-4-ALL from Liberating Structures.
