1 Define your goals

Before you start a mentorship program, you need to have a clear idea of what you want to achieve from it. What are the specific skills, knowledge, or competencies that you want to improve or acquire as an HR consultant? How will you measure your progress and performance? Feedback is just information unless it is brought to life with reflection. One can get value from it when it is reflected upon with an open mind. This is much easier said than done, it takes courage, requires maturity and wisdom to be able to declutter noise outside and in our own head to have honest reflection.

In one of my recent projects, I was mentoring 4 executives and it was crucial to review the improvements with the company owner. He could see some changes and follow up himself but he cared about the report I prepared on how I see the development of the directors. I believe mentees should be "receiving" and mentorship approach should be tailored to their real life conditions, advice given should be fitting to the sector or the realities of the company as well as personal development targets. I kindly recommend a monthly check around the expectations & realities & changes & awareness of the mentorship process with the business owner.
