The reflection that is prescribed above is an excellent approach but to know if someone truly learned from the experience, they should be able to teach others. One version of a question might be “Tell me about an experience that didn’t go as expected (fail), how did you recover and what are the core concepts that you would teach others for them to avoid the same.” If their response involves multiple fundamental lessons that get combined, then there is a good chance that they’ve truly learned and could mentor others as a result.
