In my opinion, blogs, podcasts, and webinars are the best way to learn marketing. Saying that, it is important to divide your learning into 2 parts. First, explore digital materials that talk about basics or fundamentals. This is extremely important. Second, once you are through with basics, explore materials which are latest. This will give you the idea about the most recent and trending techniques. Marketing is a dynamic space, ever changing, and thus it is critical to refer the right materials. Also, nothing better than actually trying your hand on Marketing, once your basics are right. This is where you will learn the most.

In my opinion book is the best companion and ready reference for all ages. The 16th edition of Marketing Management by Phillip Kotler, "The Gold Standard for Today’s Marketing" has been published and is available in new and used forms. I am not a big fan of online courses, unless it is more about basics and from the right institute of faculty. All that you will learn while you are a fresher will last with you for long. Select the right set of courses that will help you get a knack of fundamentals and terminologies of marketing. Also the courses that gives you a lot of practical experiences are the best ones. Choose the courses that are freshly published.

An active community is one of the best ways to learn marketing. But that is not all if you are starting your learning. You will come across terminologies or concepts that you don't know, but at least you will come across new things. Once you find those new things, if you are eager enough to go and explore more about those things, your growth would be tremendous.

I am a huge fan of experimenting, but at the same time I always keep the basics at the centre and then experiment around it. This is where you get an assurance that you will not make a blunder. Marketing is something, if done on a large scale can make or break reputations, but if your basics are right, your experiments may not give your fruits, but will never fail as well. Having the ground level experience will help you a lot in future and the fruits you will get would be beyond imagination.

Not having a mentor can be both a blessing and a curse. I did not have a mentor, sure I had some guides for some very specific things, but I did not have a mentor. While having a mentor can fast track you and close your blind spots, it also forces you down the same path that some one else has and use their models. Without a mentor, my curiosity and scepticism poured through and I tested many things, from what made sense, learned to think strategically, and questioned conventional wisdom very often. Most material online for marketing is very basic and generic. So creating test scenarios and trying new things is key.

Podcasts, or following an influencer will definitely help. However, it is important to look at the credentials of the person whom you are looking to follow. Have a mix of people to follow. With the mix I mean, some well-known and some locals. Locals will be the one that will make your life easier as they could be accessed easily, and also will throw examples with which you can relate to.
