When conducting problem-solving in a hybrid work environment, it becomes even more critical to have defined problem-solving steps. Allowing team members to generate ideas at each step is a great way to learn from each other; however, it is imperative to facilitate the team through each step without "jumping around". The 7-step problem-solving model I use is: 1) Define/identify the problem 2) Discover/collect data to determine the root cause 3) Identify options for improvement 4) Align on the pros/cons of each of the improvement options 5) Select the improvement option(s) / problem resolution 6) Implement the improvement(s) 7) Sustain the gain (measure & and report on the results of the improvement) *Thank the team and key contributors

2 Involve the right people

The second step to solving any problem is to involve the right people in the process. Hybrid teams may have different levels of expertise, experience, and availability, so you need to identify who can contribute to the problem solving and how. The best ways to develop problem solving skills in a hybrid team is to active listening skills. When connecting online, we too often: ? Have multiple windows open at the same time ? Get distracted by notifications and popups ? Listen to reply, rather than to understand In a hybrid working-situation, active listening is significantly harder than in person. Yet, it's the best way to actively solve problems together. Here's what to do: ? Close all applications and turn off all notifications ? Put your phone on do not disturb/airplane mode ? Listen to understand, actively ask questions Do those 3 things, and solving problems in a hybrid setup will be much easier.
