In my experience, I have found it super rewarding to get everyone involved; including students. This builds a sense of awareness, community, and belonging. Many perspectives are given which provides a rich and keen sense of what’s needed, where to start, and how to keep getting better. Everything I have read is good and very beneficial but there is one thing that I feel needs reinforcement: your local fire and police need to be active participants in developing and practicing your plans, especially for the worst case scenarios. In today’s social environment we must prepare for the worst and pray that it never happens on our campus.
