What are the best ways to design an e-learning course for kinesthetic learners?

Learning styles are a neuromyth. I understand the desire to be inclusive, but if you harp on about debunked theory all you are doing is telling people who know better not to take you serious.

I don't think it's healthy to dedicate too much time or thought to learning styles in e-learning. There simply isn't any convincing empirical evidence to support the idea that matching teaching approaches to a learning style actually benefits students who identify with that style, either in language learning or other fields. For an overview, see Lethaby and Mayne (2018), "A critical examination of perceptual learning styles in English language teaching". The recommendations here regarding e-learning - e.g. to offer multimedia content, incorporate interactive elements, etc. - just seem like commonsense elements of any engaging e-learning course. We don't need learning styles theory to convince us of that!

Please play attention that learning style theories have been scientifically disproven several times in the last 10 to 15 years. What is still relevant is preference for certain types or "styles" of learning. Learning about the learning preferences and habits of students makes sense when developing a course.

You cannot integrate physical exercises into your eLearning program, nor experiments or group projects that involve direct contact with materials. However, there is still a wide range of online activities that you can use to make your eLearning course more tactile. Developing tablet-based activities that require swiping, tapping, music, art, and motion controls is one such example. Interactive presentations, point-and-click eLearning games, and branching scenarios, acting out random scenarios shown, demonstrating techniques learned from an eLearning lesson, are also ideal kinesthetic eLearning tools.

You can then give feedback and correction either generally by redemonstrating or, one by one. Depending on the style of activity, feedback can be immediate - a simple banner saying "Good job!" or "Bad luck. Try again!"- or more extensive explanations given at the end. Optional and graded Hints are a particularly nice way to incorporate an element of choice and provide differentiated support.

When explaining a difficult concept, explain it 3 ways (if time and budget allows for it). Text, animation, and video. Show them, then ask them to apply it (try).

The second sentence in this doesn't make sense. Within the still unvalidated theory of learning styles, "visual learners" need visual presentation, and "auditory learners" need an auditory presentation of content. To say "kinesthetic learners" need auditory and visual presentation - is ridiculous. Every learner needs material presented in the manner that relates to what is to be learned. For example, everyone will find it most efficient to learn a new language with both auditory and visual (text/reading) stimuli. It would be impossible to teaching a new language using only kinesthetic means. The examples listed here (e.g., images, graphics, animations, or videos to illustrate) highlight the flaws in teaching to learning styles.

I'm curious how many people who are in Instructional Design are kinesthetic learners, and what their input and experiences have been. through trial and error, I've realized it's best if I can connect what I'm learning with something that I'm doing. I recommend exactly what Sri Kanth Siva mentions, about having learners try the task they were just trained on - click the buttons and start building some muscle memory. If I can build the muscle memory in my body, it cements it in my brain, if that makes any sense.

Again, we can attribute the enjoyment of sharing one's experiences and insights to all sorts of learners. The extroverts may get a kick out of sharing their thoughts in a follow-up virtual session. The introverts may prefer to document their ideas in a discussion board. Either way, ensuring that the eLearning is a component of the learning journey, not just a one-and-done event, is a great strategy for learner retention.

Don't design for kinesthetic learners; it's bunk. Learning styles have been disproven long ago. We shouldn't still be asking these questions in 2023 and it shows the limitations in AI that LinkedIn is promoting this.

At the risk of sounding defeatist, it’s important to remember that learning styles are not a thing. Therefore, in the traditional sense, there is no such thing as e-learning for kinesthetic learners. There is only e-learning for kinesthetic content or content that would be better suited for a kinesthetic implementation. This means that it is imperative for the learning designer to try to convince the stakeholder, or the SME to go back to the drawing board to reconsider e-learning as the primary mode of implementation. Failing that, while a learning designer can do their best to execute on the stakeholders vision, he or she should also have something that I would internally call an “I told you so” Plan.

You should ignore anyone who is giving you advice on how to design for learning styles. They're telling you they're outdated, inexperienced or both, without telling you they are.

There is insufficient evidence to support the existence of learning styles. Labelling and boxing how we learn can be dangerous.
