Great suggestions! You need to make the time to get to know your staff and see how they like to be recognized. Frequent touch bases with your staff can accomplish that and gives the opportunity to give feedback to help develop their skills. When I catch them going above and beyond for their teammates or patients and families, I give them recognition in the moment.

Understanding your staff passion and motivation. As you follow the recruiting cycle it's important to select not just candidates who fit your technical needs but those who fit your culture and whose values align with your organisation. It's easier to teach technical skills than it is to change a person's character. Having your staff values align with your organisation enables fulfilment at work but also dedication towards achieving a common goal. Generally have big goals that serve humanity rather than just financial goals. Pull at those heart strings.

This article seems to be relating with a health care set up, however most things stated do apply to other type of operations like service industry, sales and marketing teams, production team etc. Keeping team engaged and motivated is essential for retaining good resource, at times Managers or even directors are scared of training employees as they feel they will leave for better jobs. Challenge is to keep them engaged assigning new challenges, giving them recognition, encouragement for job well done or even at times for trying, mentoring them, etc. Creating a sense of pride in the employee for being a part of the organization and providing an environment where the employee feels like they are part of a family.
