1 Adding, editing, and deleting keyframes

To add a keyframe in After Effects, you need to select a layer and a property that you want to animate, such as position, scale, rotation, or opacity. Then, move the current time indicator to the point where you want the animation to start or end, and click the stopwatch icon next to the property name. The first and easiest step is to add easy ease to your keyframes. It is a simple change to the velocity of the animation, but you have no controls over the change. If you want control over the movement, then you move to the graph editor. It gives full control but is not a tool for beginners and takes a bit of practice to master, but it really separates simple animations into master level work. Take the time to learn the graph editor.

There are numerous use cases for automating animations in After Effects - the most frequently used ones being data-driven and dynamic/responsive animations. Simple "lasso-based" linking of properties would be among the more simpler examples. A simple, but very useful example would be to utilize expressions to automatically adjust an animation to the in and outpoints of a layer - that way you erase the need of having to move the keyframes each time you adjust the layers duration. Scripting is a different realm and requires a different approach - however it can be useful to learn Extendscript in order to automate repetitive tasks or automate more complex animations.
