Depending on the criticality and time sensitiveness of the data & operations the disaster recovery site can be a cold, warm or hot standby. Cold standby is the most cost-effective, but with no servers, it takes quite a lot of effort from Engineers to get the site operational for business continuity. A warm standby contains servers and essentially is an active-passive failover strategy whereby if the main production site goes down, we can manually bring up the warm site and redirect traffic to it. A hot site is part of an active-active failover strategy where it actively serves traffic to actual users along with the primary site and can seamlessly scale up to handle the load if the primary site goes down; this is however the most expensive.
