IDS mainly detects and reports , mainly a old technology in modern complex fabric, we can bypass IDS by sending multiple small packets and generate a attack surface, the way to optimize IDS are different keeping in mind the configuration parameters and signature it supports, but the art is with the consultant who monitors the traffic and understands this anomalies. Still technologies like IPS and AI integration can help defend the infrastructure.

Automation is your friend. Many vendors update signatures with the latest Threat Intelligence IOCs. During your vendor selection process ensure that your vendor publishes rules often and that you can integrate the rules through automation into your environment. Monitor logs, IDS tends to trigger false positives so make sure to tune your SEIM and ensure that IDS rules are correctly in place. For example, Web Servers should have different IDS rules than client hosts. Your IDS rules should be tuned for the devices they are observing! This process is continuous: 1) Automate your IDS updates 2) Review your IDS ruleset 3) Tune for Observability 4) Repeat, starting with Automating your IDS updates
